In what feels like a bad sci-fi movie, ‘some’ autonomous AI agents broke out of an isolated test environment, accessed the internet, and hacked into a private database. All by themselves! According to OpenAI, the incident happened during an internal test designed to test how far advanced AI models could go when solving complex cyberattack scenarios. The models subsequently “escaped” containment and hacked Hugging Face. It wasn’t malicious, but they did act on their own, and that is the part we should take seriously.
