A Domains Reseller will be charged an additional fee if a domain was renewed after its expiry date, this is called a Redemption Fee.

A Redemption Fee is dependent on the top level domain (TLD) that is being used (.eg .za , .com , .africa, etc.). Redemption Fees are set by the individual Registry for the renewing domain’s TLD.

.ZA Domain Expiry & Redemption Fee

• When a .za domain name expires it enters into Domain Expiry.
• Five (5 days) after the Expiry Date it then enters into Pending Suspension.
• Five (5 days) after entering Pending Suspension, the domain will be suspended and then enter into Redemption.
• When the domain is in Redemption period, an additional fee will automatically be charged in addition to the Renewal Fee.
• Should the domain not be renewed, it will then lapse and become available for anyone to register it.

International TLD Domain Expiry & Redemption Fee

• When an international TLD domain name expires (eg. .com, .net, .africa, etc.), it enters into Domain Expiry.
• Five (5 days) after the Expiry Date it then enters into Pending Suspension.
• Fifteen (15 days) after entering Pending Suspension, the domain will then be suspended and then enter into Redemption.
• When the domain is Renewed while in Redemption, an additional fee will automatically be charged in addition to the TLDs specific Renewal Fee.
• Should the domain not be renewed, it will then lapse and become available for anyone to register it.

ZARC Redemption Reinstatements

Please refer to the Registry.net.za’s (ZARC) Published Policies, specifically Clause 6.5.6. as per below:

6.5.6 Closed Redemption Reinstatements: Any reinstatement of domain where the domain has expired and entered the closed redemption period, will result in a full closed redemption fee being charged immediately to the registrar’s account and the domain name being fully re-instated as above.
