How Does The Billing System Handle Reseller Domain Auto-Renewals?

This article covers the ins and outs of Reseller domain auto-renewals.

As Domains.co.za runs an automated billing system for Resellers, it will automatically process a domain that has been enabled as “Auto-Renew” if there is a credit balance in the account, irrespective of the amount of the credit.

However, if this transactions causes the Reseller account to go into a negative balance, no further domains will be renewed until such time as the Reseller has topped it up with sufficient funds to cover those subsequent renewals.

NOTE: This does NOT apply to Domain Registrations or Domain Transfers.

Reseller Domain Auto-Renewals Explained

Domain Auto-Renewals – Credit Balance

This only applies to Auto-Renew enabled domains. If there is a credit balance in the Reseller’s account, the full price of the domain renewal will automatically be charged against it, irrespective of that credit amount.

EXAMPLE: If the Reseller has a balance of CR R10.00 and the domain renewal is DR R90.00, then the account will reflect a balance of DR -R80.00 on the Reseller Panel.

The Reseller account must have sufficient funds to complete ALL domain registration and transfer transactions – the above does NOT apply to these.

Debit Run for Domain Auto-Renewals

The debit is set to run on the exact time of registration on a daily basis against the account beginning 7 DAYS PRIOR to the domain’s actual Expiry Date.

The system will continue to run the charge on a daily basis until the expiry date is reached. On the expiry date (e.g. 1st June) a Notification will be sent that the domain has expired.

EXAMPLE: If the domain expiry date is 1st June, then the automated system will begin running from the 25th May.

Domain Suspension

Domain Suspension is automatically set for 5 days post expiry date, after which the domain will be suspended.

Domain Redemption

The domain and website will still be available during the period between Expiry & Suspension.

Depending on the TLD, the domain will go into redemption a specific number of days after suspension. If the domain needs to be renewed after it is in the Redemption period, a Redemption Fee will have to be paid over and above the actual renewal fee.
