How to Setup Your Email Account in Thunderbird
- Open the Mozilla Thunderbird application on your computer. If this is your first time using the program, the Mail Account Setup dialog box will automatically display.

2. If the setup dialog does not appear, to access the Account Settings, click on the menu icon, represented by three horizontal lines, appearing in the upper right corner. Next, from the dropdown menu, select Account Settings.

3. To create a new mail account, navigate to the Account Settings window, select Account Actions located at the bottom left, and then choose Add Mail Account.

4. Enter your name (this will be visible to recipients), your complete email address, and your password. After you have filled in this information, click Continue.
5. If Thunderbird is unable to automatically detect your settings, select the option to Configure manually to input the server settings manually.
6. You may choose either IMAP (recommended) or POP3 as your incoming protocol. For IMAP, enter the hostname (ensuring there are no leading periods) and utilise port 993. For POP3, the appropriate port is 995. It is important to ensure that the connection security and authentication methods remain at their default settings.
7. Adjust the outgoing server hostname to correspond with the incoming server settings and set the port number to 465. Again, ensure that connection security and authentication methods are maintained at their default configurations.
8. Click on Re-test to confirm that all the information you have entered is accurate. If all settings are correctly configured, you will receive a confirmation message indicating that the setup was successful.
9. After verifying that your settings are correct, click on Done. Your inbox will now be visible in the top left corner of Thunderbird.
