What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is a website’s unique, easy-to-read address, like “domains.co.za” in www.domains.co.za, comprising of the main name, like “domains,” often the brand and the suffix, in this case .com.

Registering a Domain Name

Domains.co.za customers can register a domain name free* on a selection of our hosting plans. Once the payment has been received, domain name registration is instant. However, the hosting setup can take up to 24 hours to become active.

After confirming your domain name’s availability and completing the registration, you will receive an email with all relevant details and information.

Domain Name Renewal

Once your domain name is registered, you have ownership for one year before it needs to be renewed. Ensure you renew timeously, as the domain becomes publicly available when it expires.

You can register your domain for up to 10 years (starting from a minimum of 2 years, as per your preference).

If a domain is set to Auto Renew, the system will automatically renew it on the due date if a valid credit card is linked to the account. Auto Renew will debit the card for the initial registration period, whether it is 1 year or up to 10 years. If you prefer not to use Auto Renew, please disable this through your Domains Control Panel under Domain Management.

Web Hosting

If your website is not ready to be published, consider first opting for a plan that offers only Email Hosting instead of full Web Hosting until the site goes live.

All Domains.co.za customers receive FREE Domain Name Parking, for you to use until your website is ready to launch, even if you register a domain name independently of hosting.

How to Register a Domain with Domains.co.za:

1. Check Availability: In the search bar, please enter the domain name you want and select the TLD (extension) and if it’s available you can select it.

2. Explore Similar Options: There will be a confirmation message on the screen, as well as an option to select other TLDs, if you want them.

3. Add to Cart: Add the domain to your cart and click on the Checkout button.

4. Create an Account: Create your new account, or login to your existing one.

5. Complete Contact Info: Fill out the form and submit.

6. Secure Payment: Proceed to a safe and secure payment gateway to complete the purchase.

7. Quick Registration: Your registered domain will be yours when the Registration Fee has been paid and all relevant information has been provided.
